"Just about everyone has someone in their family or circle of friends who gets themselves into bad situations, due to either mental health issues or addiction. We all know someone who struggles, and sometimes they reach out to us for help in a crisis. Nearly all of us have answered -- or will one day answer -- a late-night cry of distress.
"Here's the problem for you: What are you supposed to say? You can't change their mind for them, so what's the point of calling you? Why do they expect you to convince them to make a good choice or to halt a bad decision?
"Maybe in the past, you've given advice, but people don't seem to accept what you've offered. Sometimes, it feels like they just called you to complain. You may even feel like you can't do anything for them. But is that true?
"How can you help them (and not harm yourself)? How can you interact in a more helpful way? How can you best intervene?
That's what I'm about to share with you..."

" Within this space, I slow down enough to reflect on the lives we live from a clinical, spiritual, relational, beneficent, and purposeful perspective. I write to share what I observe and learn as a counselor, a believer, an advocate, and a man committed to helping others grow. Whether reflective or narrative, hopefully always informative, I share, anchored in hope and the belief that sharing is intimately involved in living and healing."
